Tokyo / Kyoto Things!

The rest of our trip out to Tokyo consisted of touristy things since Neil and the family and Scottie had never been out this way before. We roamed around the city, ate, saw rad things and even took a day trip out to Kyoto to change it up a little. Overall, it was yet another amazing trip to a country that never ceases to amaze me. I’ve been fortunate enough to come here four times now and I’m nowhere near tired of this beautiful country.

Saddleback / SoCal Elite Youth Basketball Camp!

Since Collin’s been playing a ton of basketball, most of which has been with SoCal Elite, we organized and helped run a youth basketball camp in conjunction with Saddleback Church. The age range was from five to ten and we had about seventy kids take part. Overall, the camp was a huge success and hopefully there will be more in the future.

Jordan Brand – Blake Griffin Lift Off

Our friends from the Jordan Brand marketing team invited us to the Blake Griffin Lift Off event in Santa Monica where they were debuting Blake’s new show along with a mini dunk contest and press conference. Before the release, Collin was able to get down on the court and show off some of his dribbling skills.

The Flower Fields

Ugh, I’m doing a horrible job of staying even remotely close to up to date but I’m going to give it another shot… if you’re still here, thanks for being patient with me. For those of you that come every so many years, you can always follow along on Instagram@genetjin, be warned though, I’m pretty quick to deny people that I don’t know since I post mainly family stuff and don’t really care to have random people I’ve never met or spoken to following me.

The final day of Kim’s pregnancy, with my sister and her husband, Kelly, in town, we took the trip down to Carlsbad, CA to check out the The Flower Fields. My wife had been wanting to go for a while so we figured we’d go before our first child was born.

HRE Wheels Visit

Having always been a fan of HRE Wheels for their styling and quality, I jumped at the chance to head down there and get a walk through of their facility. My boss and I took the drive down to Oceanside for a meeting and to get a tour of how things are done there.

Unlike many forged wheel companies around, HRE does everything on-site from cutting the wheels and finishing them to assembly and packing. We had the chance to see everything from raw parts ready to be cut to how they clean up wheels that had just come out of the CNC machines. If you have the chance to get a tour of their facility, I suggest you do, you won’t be disappointed.

CES 2013!

For this year’s CES Show, our friends at Scosche asked us if we wanted to come out and check the show out. Having been last year and also being into gadgets and all that, we figured we’d go. Usually we go to check out the ridiculously oversized tlevisions we can’t afford and this year was the same, with the exception of Audi pretty much showing the best booth I’ve ever seen. As simple as it was, the actual set up was just awesome.

Chris Paul “CP3 Day” / Nitro Pack Release!

An old coworder / friend, Fausto Merida gave me a call asking if we’d be interested in bringing some cars out for a special event thrown by the Nike Jordan Brand team at the LA Fire Academy and with no hesitation, we committed. Besides cars, basketball has been something we’ve always been into and having the chance to being both together was a no brainer.

We were told that Jordan Brand would be debuting three new color ways of Chris Paul’s shoe under the “Nitro Pack” name and there would be some other basketball related things going on. With not much information, we headed out to Los Angeles with the two Tjin Edition Camaros and the Tjin Edition Honda Civic.

When we arrived, everything was still in the set up stages but we quickly found out there there would be students from all across LA County that were invited to try on the shoes and take part in various skills tests as well as see a celebrity game. Jalen Rose, The Game, Common, and of course, Chris Paul all took part and put on quite a show with Chris Paul hitting the game winner.

Overall, it was an awesome experience being able to showcase our cars in front of a new audience as well as open doors for some great new partnerships in the process.

LA Auto Show!

Yay, the LA Auto Show!

As usual, we took the annual trip to Los Angeles for the LA Auto Show since Neil’s Camaro was on display in the Kentia Hall downstairs. We took the kids to run around and look to look at things… obviously I don’t feel like writing about an auto show so feel free to scroll down and look at the pictures.

Bentley Continental GT3 Release Shindig!

If you know Jason Siu, you know Jason Siu hates everything. Every thing. One thing near the top of his list is driving and driving far and leaving Orange County to go to Los Angeles County is definitely “driving far.”

With his AutoGuide.com gig requiring him to go up to Los Angeles for the reveal of the Bentley Continental GT3 racecar, he asked me if I wanted to make the drive up with him and since I’m such an amazing friend, I obliged. We headed up to Smashbox Studios and got there just a few minutes before the event was supposed to kick off. Although the car was under a tarp, there were posters of it all over the venue which was a little strange but nonetheless, people were excited… those people did not include Jason.

E3!

Yes, it’s late. I know.

A few weeks ago, Neil and I took the trip up to Los Angeles, to check out this year’s E3 (Electronics Entertainment Expo), thanks to Mr. Jerry Kern, Mrs. Danielle Xu, who were representing Nintendo that day.

Having never been and heard rumors that it’s incredibly hard to get in to, we figured we’d take the opportunity to check it out for ourselves. As soon as we walked in, we were amazed. Having been huge fans of EA Games’ games since the NBA Live and Madden series first came out, seeing size the EA booth was awesome. Even though we were never really into any other games besides sports and driving games, it’s cool to see just how into it the rest of the attendees were. Waiting in hour long lines to play a game, no thanks… having the chance to see how other industries set up conventions though, really cool. I’m used to seeing boring, outdated SEMA booths and having the chance to come to E3, it’s refreshing to see that there are actually people out there that get it, unlike 98% of the automotive aftermarket.

Anyways, E3 was pretty rad and if you ever have the chance to go, do it.
