One Year Anniversary: San Francisco and Big Sur Road Road Trip

Somehow it’s already been a year since Kim and I’ve been married and to celebrate, she surprised me with a trip to Northern California. A few weeks before our anniversary she told me some of what was planned so we decided roll in a one day trip to San Francisco before our long weekend in Big Sur. Having never been to Big Sur before, I was stoked to know that we’d have three days all to ourselves to explore and take in the scenery.

We took off from Southern California Thursday after work and reached San Francisco a little after midnight. After checking in to Chateau Wallace, the haunted mansion on Scott St, we settled in and called it a night. Since all we do is eat while we’re in San Francisco, we took the drive down to Eats with some of my NorCal loves, Marc Chow and Father Apollo Wallace. We ate like animals and then met up with the brothers Mar, Tim and Matt as well as Andy Von Wong for some much needed ice cream at Smitten. After dessert we headed back to Chateau Wallace where I dominated everyone at Star Wars pinball and then made our way back out to feed our gluttonous faces at San Tung. I have no clue what we did after dinner but at some point we ended up at another dessert place, Akiba, where we fed our fat faces again, this time with some amazing ice cream, strawberry and bread concoction. Trust me, it was amazing. We departed feeling disgusting and full and headed to some other haunted place where we all felt equally strange inside… maybe it was the spirits, maybe it was the stomach aches.

The following morning Kim had an appointment to get her hair cut downtown so while she was doing that, I decided to roam around Union Square and play the tourist role… even though I’ve been there at least fifty times before. A quick stop at Twin Peaks and then we hit the road and made our way to Big Sur!

When we finally hit Big Sur, it was just as amazing as we thought it would be. The ocean and the forest covered with fog around one turn and then open skies around the next made the journey that much better. I’ll spare you the details about the rest of the trip because I’m sure most of you have already stopped reading but the cliff notes version includes a trip to Los Lobos State Park, a late night relaxation session in the hot mineral springs at the Esalen Institute, an AMAZING stay at the Glen Oaks Big Sur cottages (forest view,) and just some good old quality time with my lady.

A big “thank you” to Julia Vaughn of AVGVSTA & AVGVSTVS for coming through her Skulliosis bracelets right before the trip as well, Kim loved them!

Overall, even though the trip was short, I had an amazing time. A quick trip to San Francisco to see my lovers, a great long weekend alone with the finest piece of meat on the planet and just a good time altogether. Kim Moore Tjin, thank you for an amazing first year… here’s to three hundred more!

Players / Rotiform: Played Out!

Late again, I know. A mix of being busy with other things and just not wanting to sit behind a computer for more than I have to.

Anyways, a few weeks ago the crew from Players and Rotiform put on the Played Out event down at Don the Beachcombers on PCH. Overall, the event was a good one with quality outweighing quantity… it also helped that the beach was literally right across the street. I’ll stop boring you now… on to the pics!

Newport Beach Family Time Action, Yeah!

Since Kim and I somewhat recently moved down to Costa Mesa, near Newport Beach, we decided to take the short drive down to the beach along with Neil, Mei, Collin and Kylie. Just some quality time with the ones we love enjoying the amazing Southern California weather. Yup, good times building sand castles, burying monster trucks jumping off life guard towers and running away from the cold ocean water.

E3!

Yes, it’s late. I know.

A few weeks ago, Neil and I took the trip up to Los Angeles, to check out this year’s E3 (Electronics Entertainment Expo), thanks to Mr. Jerry Kern, Mrs. Danielle Xu, who were representing Nintendo that day.

Having never been and heard rumors that it’s incredibly hard to get in to, we figured we’d take the opportunity to check it out for ourselves. As soon as we walked in, we were amazed. Having been huge fans of EA Games’ games since the NBA Live and Madden series first came out, seeing size the EA booth was awesome. Even though we were never really into any other games besides sports and driving games, it’s cool to see just how into it the rest of the attendees were. Waiting in hour long lines to play a game, no thanks… having the chance to see how other industries set up conventions though, really cool. I’m used to seeing boring, outdated SEMA booths and having the chance to come to E3, it’s refreshing to see that there are actually people out there that get it, unlike 98% of the automotive aftermarket.

Anyways, E3 was pretty rad and if you ever have the chance to go, do it.

Family Time at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park!

The week leading up to our trip to Shanghai, my dad made the trip from Suriname to spend some time with us and the kids. While he was in town we were finally able to spend some great quality time together talking and just hanging out. Although he’s who knows how many thousand miles away from us on a daily basis, having the chance to spend any time with him face to face is priceless.

While he was here we decided to head down to San Diego to check out the San Diego Zoo Safari Park and all that it has to offer. Giraffes, rhinoceroses, ostriches, lions, monkeys, a cheetah and even a wooly mammoth… alright, we didn’t see any wooly mammoths.

#kgshanghai2012 – The Pictures

I know, I haven’t updated this in what seems like forever. You’ve heard it before and you’ll probably hear it again… but really, I apologize to those of you that still continue to come back, I appreciate you even wasting your time coming here in the first place.

With that said, as you some of you know, Neil, Mei, Collin, Kylie and I were fortunate enough to take a journey half way across the world along with the Tjin Edition Chevrolet Camaro SS to attend the first annual Shanghai International Modified Auto Show (SIMAS.)

Rewind a few weeks before and Neil was in negotiations with the folks that handle all of the events logistics to get the vehicle transportation, flights and lodging handled and once everything was set, the countdown to departure began.

#kgshanghai2012 – The Video

Sorry for the incredible lack of updates over the past few weeks/months… between starting a new job, going to China for a week and moving into a new place, the last thing I’ve wanting/able to do is update this in the little spare time that I’ve had.

With that said, here’s a little recap video of the trip to Shanghai, China that Neil, Mei, Collin, Kylie and myself too a couple of weeks ago. I’ll be posting the images I took while over there soon and I’ll give you guys some details as to why we were out there in the first place. Anyhow, enjoy the video!
