Today’s menu: curry chicken and roti… and stomach ache’s of fury due to all of this amazing food.
Kim, Neil, Collin, Warren and Rachel took the drive down to Cutler Ridge again to pick up lunch and then made our way to Rachel’s house to meet up with her family and chow down. Good times as usual harassing Rachel’s mom and her sister (who we had just met) and eating some great Caribbean food.
We packed up and hit the road towards downtown to check out the Marni store since Kim wanted to check it out. We walked around for a bit and after realizing I wanted pretty much every piece of menswear in there, I decided it was probably best that I just quit while I was ahead and stopped looking.
Next up, Art Basel street art. I’d been wanting to check out some of the work that’d been done in previous years by some of the best artists in the world but I never had the chance to, until now. We spent a good two hours driving and walking around taking pictures and checking things out and I have to say, some of this stuff is beyond incredible. Seeing the size and detail that went into some of these pieces is just amazing. Having seen work by a lot of these artists online before, having the opportunity to see their work in person gives me that much more respect for them and their craft.
Before we headed home, we decided to stop by the warehouse that started it all for Neil and I way back in the late 90’s. My dad used to run his business out of this place and Neil and I ran our own company, Star Performance from one of the offices inside. Oh the memories, it was good while it lasted and opened a lot of doors for us to help us accomplish a lot of the things we have today.
The night was finished off with a little BBQ action at the Shim-Quee residence thanks to chef Jared Duerstock. Hamburgers, Churrasco, homemade potato salad, ice cream and cake (and cake!) and I don’t even know what else, was on the menu and with good company around everything was great. We ended the night with Warren falling in the pool on horrible attempt to land on the innertube and me being pushed in fully dressed. Regardless, it was another great night with great friends.
